Hair Cosmetics and Hair Loss

Many people use different cosmetics to care about hair or to create their favorite hairstyle. Besides shampoos there are conditioners, balsams, hair sprays, masques, mousses, gels and a great variety of dyes. Many of these products are designed for good purposes, but one needs to remember that not all of them are healthy if applied too often or too much. While high-quality hair cosmetics provide good care, some of them can damage hair strands or lead to temporary hair loss.
The most damaging products are dye and perms, but it does not mean they cannot be applied, but one has to be cautious while treating their hair with them and the decision should rest not on the price, but on the quality.
Hair dye is the top hair-loss causing product that is used by millions of people in the world. Each hair strand looks like a hollow tube made out of little scales. When the coloring is done, the dye fills up the inside of the hair strand making the scales perk up, which by itself is damaging. In addition to this many dyes contain strong chemicals in order to retain the hair color longer. They dry the scalp and the strands which result in hair loss or at the least, split ends.
Permanent waves used to be really popular a decade ago, and some people still love them. If they are applied by a professional and with a high quality kit, perms do not cause much trouble. Hair loss can be the result of wrong treatment when the person does not have enough experience or does not follow the directions of the kit completely. The other reasons for hair loss after perms are applied are as follows: the condition of the hair was bad before the perms, there was too much solution used, the chemical was too strong for the hair type, or the solution was left in the hair for too long.
Other types of hair treatment can lead to hair loss too. Hair sprays, gels, mousses, etc. are usually applied too often, which is not best. Everybody’s hair needs “rest” from these products, so they should be completely washed out to avoid build up. In addition, it is important to know that an excessive amount of hair spray, gels, mousses, and so forth adds weight to the hair, weakening it and drying it out – these conditions lead to premature hair loss.
When any of the above mentioned symptoms occur, the person needs to stop using any of the products that could cause it. After this, it is important to find the best way to fix the damage. The most sensible option would be to consult a hair specialist because he/she can examine the situation and find the right solution for the specific hair type. The stylist will give advice how to strengthen the hair, increase its growth, and explain what needs to be done to avoid future hair loss.
How can one reduce hair loss from caused by cosmetics? The easiest way would be just to stop using anything that could damage it, but in some cases this is not an option. To reduce the reasons for hair loss, choose the products with natural ingredients. As a rule they are more expensive, but contain fewer chemicals. Cosmetics with alcohol dry out the hair, so use the ones with a hydration effect instead. A shampoo with deep cleaning helps to wash out all the gel, spray and other products applied within the last several hours.
If the hair is suffering due to coloring, temporary dye or the ones with natural ingredients will not affect it as harshly as the ones with strong chemicals. If long term color is still desired, he/she needs to trust the job to a specialist who would use exactly the right kind of dye. As for permanent waves, sometimes hot curlers are a practical substitute.
As a precaution of premature hair loss a person should leave the hair untouched for two days a week. During this time the strands “breathe”, become stronger, healthier and shinier receiving more nutrients from the body.
